Your Hosts, Mike Fry & Beth Nelson
Mike and Beth not only Co-Host Animal Wise Radio, they also work together at Animal Ark Animal Shelter, a full-service, no-kill animal shelter serving the Twin Cities Metro area. Mike is the Executive Director and Beth the Outreach Coordinator. Each week, with the help of the show's regular contributors and guests, they bring fun and captivating discussions about animal issues to the air waves.
Mike brings nearly thirty years experience working and volunteering on behalf of animals in the Twin Cities area. Mike's animal family includes a rescued Boxer/Cattle Dog mix named Barney, a Rat Terrier named Tasha, and a black and white Tuxedo Cat, named Lucy. He also maintains some and some very rare and beautiful reptiles.
Beth's diverse background includes working to help animals as well as people. In addition to her work at Animal Ark, she is a blacksmith and fine stained glass artisan with a special and education in, well, education. She is a wiz in the garden and especially loves to celebrate our connections to Mother Earth

Dr. Linda Wolf, DVM
Dr. Wolf writes and produces our weekly Doctor! Doctor! segments. She is a nationally known speaker and veterinary consultant with special interests in animal behavior and wildlife medicine.
Dr. Wolf is the former director of the Wildlife Rehabilitication Clinic in Minnesota and has served on the Board of Directors of the National Wildlife Rehabilitator's Association.
Dr. Wolf is owned by a beautiful Border Collie Mix named Meghan, who is a regular guest at many of Animal Ark's and Animal Wise Radio's special events.
Dr. Wolf's Doctor! Doctor! segments are a fun and lively addition to Animal Wise Radio.
Nathan Winograd
Nathan J. Winograd is the Director of the national No Kill Advocacy Center. He is a graduate of Stanford Law School, a former criminal prosecutor and attorney, was director of operations for the San Francisco SPCA and executive director of the Tompkins County SPCA, two of the most successful shelters in the nation. He has spoken nationally and internationally on animal sheltering issues, has written animal protection legislation at the state and national level, has created successful No Kill programs in both urban and rural communities, and has consulted with a wide range of animal protection groups including some of the largest and best known in the nation. Nathan is also the author of Redemption: The Myth of Pet Overpopulation and the No Kill Revolution in America, widely considered the seminal book on animal sheltering in the U.S.
Dr. Michael W. Fox, D.Sc., Ph.D., B. Vet. Med., MRCVS
Well-known author of the syndicated Animal Doctor column that is featured in newspapers around the nation, Dr. Fox has also published several books, including The Healing Touch for Dogs and The Healing Touch for Cats, New Market Press, NY and Killer Foods: When Scientists Manipulate Genes, Better is Not Always Best,The Lyon's Press, Guilford, CT. and others.
He is the former vice president of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and currently lectures world-wide on a variety of topics ranging from animal rights and animal welfare to bio-ethics. He is the chief consultant/veterinarian for the India Project for Animals and Nature.
Bill Stephenson
Supervisor, Saint Paul Animal Control
Bill has worked as a civil servant for more than 26 years, including 18 years in Animal Control. Bill has served on the Executive Board member with the Minnesota Animal Control Association (MACA) since 1997 and has lead initiatives to improve the lives of both people and animal in the community. Because of his depth of experience, Bill has a unique ability to undersand the connection between protecting people and animals. Billl's long list of accomlishments includes:
- Participated since the inception of the Minnesota Animal Disaster Coalition (MnADC).
- Assisted in the creation of the Minnesota Animal Disaster Plan.
- Nationally Certified Animal Control Levels I, II, & III.
- Minnesota Certified Animal Control.
- Instructor for Dangerous Dog Laws at the Minnesota State Statute School.
- Instructed at several Minnesota Animal Control Association conferences and seminars.
- Experienced in capture, removal, and relocation of many wildlife species. (birds to deer)
- Assited in changes to State Law and City Ordinances to better meet today's societal needs.
- Continued the focus of my predecessor to reduce the number of dog bites reported in the City from a high of over 1300 in 1971 to the current level of 147 in 2004.
