Ramping Up Wildcat Wednesdays
Community-wide problem to get community-wide solution

Beginning September 26, Animal Ark, St. Paul Animal Control, with the help of other Homes for All Pets Partners and the St. Paul District 7 Planning Council, will launch a new and innovative program intended to help control, reduce, or even eliminate feral cats from areas of St. Paul. The program, dubbed "Wildcat Wednesdays" will offer free trap, neuter and return (TNR) services for St. Paul residents who are experiencing problems with wild felines.

Feral cats are untamed, unsocialized offspring of domestic house cats. Their populations are increasing dramatically throughout Minnesota, creating problems for people, pets and wildlife. "Traditional" (i.e. lethal) approaches to managing feral felines have proven to be inhumane and ineffective. In contrast, Animal Ark has used TNR to effectively control feral cats in many rural settings.

"TNR is not only more humane, it is more effective and more cost effective," said Mike Fry, Executive Director of Animal Ark. "We are, therefore, really pleased to be launching this program in cooperation with St. Paul Animal Control, District 7 and our Homes for All Pets partners."
