Question: How do you determine your adoption fees?

Answer: Because we are a no-kill animal shelter, we operate off of our adoption fees and donations. We set our adoption fees high enough to discourage impulse adoptions and low enough to be of significant value to those who use our services. Each pet that enters our shelter receives a variety of services that include vaccinations, medical screenings and surgical sterilizations (spay or neuter). On average, Animal Ark spends about $350 on each pet that enters our shelter. Our adoption fees do not come close to covering those expenses. So we rely on donations to keep our doors open. We generally charge more for "high demand" breeds and young animals and less for animals with special needs.
